ONE MINUTE FLIM CHALLENGE - EVALUATION

How did you find working in a group when it came to:
a) coming up with and deciding on an idea?
b) working together when filming?
First, we choose the topic of "RECREATING A FILM". To start us off, we brainstorm some of our favorite films and came up with the final decision of doing " Inside out" an animated comedy.
For research, we went on Youtube and search for trailers and montage of the films in order to get everyone on the same track. After finalizing on one trailer, we then decided who will be playing which character. For homework, that day is to re-watch the clips but specifically focus on the character that is assign to each member. Also starting to look at different types of shot included in the clips.
Even though it was our first time working with each other and also the first time filming, everyone all contributes to giving out ideas and opinions. Without being scared, which I think it is important while working within a team. Also having people to remind you and telling you what you're doing wrong is also a good thing to have.

I took over the lead for the filming and camera work when Bing organizing the order of scene, actors and also bringing in props needed. On the other hand, Kelly really engaged in the filming and acting out. Personally was really excited and had fun working with both Bing and Kelly.

INSIDE OUT 2.0 -
How did you find working with:
a) Camera
b) Editing software
c) Audio equipment

Within the team we do have a level of basic knowledge of camera, however, I personally had problems with attaching the camera to the tripod but Bing was able to help and teach me how to attached to it. Again an advantage working with a team. During shooting, all members all are able to identify the different shot types and camera angle that we learned in class, which is useful as we were able to apply it.  Also, we were told to not break the "180 degree line" people on the team all had that in mind.

I was in charge for most of the editing part of the project, as I had some past experience with basic editing. Despite having some knowledge, still had some trouble while working with adobe premiere as some of the tools are new to me. Luckily I got some help from Ryu which he taught me how to zoom in and to use fast blur effect. Overall, I find it really interesting as I got to learn new skills and would like to be more familiar with using the software. One thing I really realized is that "editing is very time-consuming", especially when effects are involved.

We had no addition microphone, we only had the microphone from the camera. Which decreased the speech volume of the clip and also got some other noises in the room, which as a result making the film less effective. However, I added sound effects to the clip. In the cheering scene, I added football sound effect to the background (which I lower volume of that sound effect than the cheering sound from the clip). Additionally, putting a voice over to a section of the film, I did this by removing the sound of the original clip and add the audio of a recording.

How do you feel about your film:

a) List 3 (or more) things that you are particularly pleased with.
Firstly, was really proud of the team and everyone who contribute to the making of my first ever film! I received a lot of positive comments from friends and had good audience reactions. We made a comedy film which one of our aims is trying to make people laugh and we did achieve that. Secondly, great teamwork between each of us, everyone helps out and contributes. Which creates a good energy within the team also making it easy to communicate. Moreover, being able to receive comments within the group is a good thing. Lastly getting to explore the different effects on premiere and just learning how to edit. Furthermore, being able to know how much effort will need to be put into filmmaking, and also how each process isn't as easy as it seems.

b) List 3 (or more) things that you think could be improved.
During 0:35 to 0:44, personally, I think that the editing can be improved or add a fast blur effect, as I think it wasn't quite clear during the scene change (between the mind and the real world). Besides, because there are noises in the clip so maybe having a microphone can get a better recording and eliminate the noises a bit better. At last, getting more practice with the use of the software and maybe explore more effects.
If you were to do this project again is there anything you would do differently?
PLANNING! maybe discuss the different types of shot and angle before we start filming, which can give every member a more clear idea. Tasks are then clearer and can be ticked off when finished.
