BABADOOK (WHOLE MOVIE) - THOUGHTS

I've watched the whole film and analyse it, here are some things that I found interesting. Over all, I find the movie really depressing to watch, part of it is because of the plot but mostly I found that the sound involved (both diegetic and non-diegetic) in this film are really nice as it really creates a lot of tension and really keeps me on the edge of my seat. The change between intense tension and disturbing quietness made me felt really tired and made my energy is all drained out.

INTERESTING POINTS FROM CLIP

Through out the whole movie, this movies uses a lot of human like figure. That creates a sense of presentation of the fear.

The colour pallet used through out the film is very pale, that gave the sense of lifeless. There's barely any sunlight shining through the house, it is mostly kept dark which gives a feeling of overwhelming darkness coving the house, that there is no positive energy.

The mother seem to have two personality as sometime she seem to love and adore his son but sometime all she had toward her son is anger and hatred.

The cover of the book "Babadook" is in bright red which counter with the surrounding, the colour red also represent the sense of danger. The monster babadook was to represent the mother's emotion of grief due to the lost of her husband. We can make this connection between as the basement is where her husband stuff is and that in the ending the babadook went and hide in there.

The sound non diegetic sound are mostly echoing, repeating sound, magical sound and also the use of ratio sound waves. That builds up the tension. I think the use of theses music really creates strong tension as the sound is very irritating and isn't pleasant. It also contradict with the diegetic sound of footsteps on wood and the sound of fabric, which is usually represented as relaxing. Also the use of silent is really effective, as it puts audience on the edge of their seat.

Moreover, what increases the frustration is the screaming and crying of her over energetic son. That causes stressfulness while watching the film.

I really like this uses of mise en scene, as it convey the idea of she wanting her husband back and the use of devils and skeleton emphasis the idea of death of her husband.

The ending is very interesting, as the babadook didn't disappear which means that the feeling of lost of our lover won't ever fade or be forgotten but if we can control it then it won't affect our daily life.
